Understanding Your Assignment Evaluation
Overview
Your Instructor determines how each Breakout Learning assignment is graded. Depending on the assignment, your evaluation may be based on one or more of the following:
- Quiz performance
- Attendance
- Session completion
- Discussion contributions
You can view the grading categories and their weights at the beginning of your assignment.
Note: Breakout Learning provides an evaluation based on your Instructor's grading settings. Your Instructor has full control over your final assignment grade and may choose how the Breakout evaluation is used when determining that grade.
Quiz Performance
Some assignments include a pre-session quiz, and others may include a quiz after the discussion.
Your quiz score is based on the percentage of questions you answer correctly.
Attendance
Attendance measures whether you joined the discussion session.
If attendance is included in the grading criteria, joining the session is required to receive credit for this category.
Session Completion
Completion measures how much of the discussion session you participated in.
Remaining in the session until it concludes helps ensure you receive full credit for this category.
Discussion Contributions
Your discussion contributions are evaluated based on the quality of your participation throughout the conversation.
Strong contributions typically include:
- Supporting your ideas with evidence or examples.
- Explaining your reasoning clearly.
- Building on your classmates' ideas by asking questions or making connections.
- Demonstrating an understanding of the course material.
Your entire discussion is considered during evaluation, so meaningful contributions made at any point in the conversation count toward your overall participation score.
Tips for Success
To get the most out of your discussion:
- Complete any assigned readings or pre-work before your session.
- Participate throughout the discussion.
- Support your ideas with evidence or examples.
- Explain your thinking, not just your conclusions.
- Engage respectfully with your classmates' ideas.
- Stay for the full discussion.
Your evaluation is provided to your Instructor, who determines how it is used when calculating your final assignment and course grades.
