Setting Up Breakout Learning in Canvas

Step 1: Creating the Developer Key

1. Log in to Canvas as an Administrator and navigate to the Admin Panel > Developer Keys.

   

2. Click + Developer Key and select + LTI Key

   .

3. Enter a Key Name, such as "Breakout Learning Integration".

4. Under Method, select Enter URL.

   

5. In the JSON URL field, enter:
   https://app.breakoutlearning.com/lti-configuration.json
   This URL automatically configures necessary settings.

6. Click Save.

7. Locate the newly created Developer Key and copy/note the Client ID from the Details column.

8. Toggle the State to On (it should turn green) and Confirm when prompted to activate the integration.

   

Step 2: Registering Breakout Learning as an External Tool

1. Navigate to Admin Panel > Settings > Apps.

   

2. Click View App Configurations, then + App.

   

3. Select Configuration Type: By Client ID.

   

4. Paste the Client ID from Step 1 and click Submit.

   • Confirm when prompted to install.

5. Ensure that Breakout Learning appears in the list of External Tools.

   

Step 3: Connecting Canvas to Breakout Learning

1. Send the following details to the Breakout Learning Integrations Manager – snehil.mahajan@breakoutlearning.com and your account manager:

   • Client ID (e.g., 264440000000000001)

   • Canvas Hostname (e.g., university.instructure.com)

2. Once Breakout Learning authorizes the connection, the integration will be fully functional.
