Creating an Activity - Brightspace/D2L Users

A step-by-step process for creating and assigning the activity.

 

1. Choose the course and module

  • Log in to your Brightspace Instructor account.

  • Open the course where you want to add the Breakout experience.

  • In the visual table of contents, select the module for the new activity.

2. Add the Breakout activity

  • Open the Existing Activity dropdown.

  • Select Breakout Learning.

  • Scroll the list or use the search bar to find the desired experience by title or keyword.

3. Review the experience details

  • Read the estimated time required and activity description.

  • Check learning objectives and rubrics used for assessment.

  • Download available instructor materials.

  • Review prework items such as podcasts and PDFs.

  • Open the quiz section to see questions with correct answers marked.

  • Use Preview Experience to view the full student version.

4. Add the experience as an assignment

  • Choose whether students select their own groups or the instructor assigns them.

  • Set the maximum number of students per group.

  • Decide if the assignment will be graded.

    • If graded, configure the grading criteria.

  • Add the assignment to the class.

5. Set dates and restrictions

  • Return to the module page and open the experience you added.

  • Scroll to Dates and Restrictions.

  • Enter a start date, due date, and end date.

  • Save the updated dates.

6. Assign the experience to students

  • Select Go to Assignment to refresh the setup.

  • Open the assignment again to finalize student assignment options.

  • Create new groups or use existing groups.

  • Assign the experience to specific or random groups.

  • Schedule the meeting if needed.
